As to the Lord

I have a little lesson to share with you, like I mentioned in my last post, I am having my Industrial Attachment Training (This is a training in Nigeria where students are sent to different industries or institutes to bridge the gap between the classroom and the industry, this takes place after the long academic sessions of higher institutions. It is somewhat similar to internship) and it has been one full of so many lessons. I remembered asking the Lord to teach me again somethings He had taught me before that I had not apprehended.

God has been particular about the way I work. We are in a time where civil servants and other workers in Nigeria just do what they like, they do as though they are not being paid.

There was a time when the work at my place of training was so much that I was being overwhelmed but a phrase kept ringing in my heart; my understanding as a believer will not allow me compromise and be lazy.

How do I work as a believer in this “compromised environment”?  Servants, respectfully obey your earthly masters but always with an eye to obeying the real master, Christ. Don’t just do what you have to do to get by, but work heartily, as Christ’s servants doing what God wants you to do. And work with a smile on your face, always keeping in mind that no matter who happens to be giving the orders, you’re really serving God. Good work will get you good pay from the Master, regardless of whether you are slave or free.( Eph 6:5-8 MSG)… King James Version says our service as to the Lord (vs 7)… This is how God wants us to work, as though we are working for the Lord. This has always been my encouragement and a form of reminder as I go about my work.

God wants us to not conform to our perverse environment (see Romans 12), He wants us to give our best as though we are working for Him (God is asking for my best, if it is for Him then it must be with all my heart and done with a joyful heart).

I believe if we really want Christ to be seen in our days, we must begin to show Him even in our place of work and in our attitude to work.

Someone is saying but I will be exhausted, lol. My boss was once surprised that I didn’t have a breakdown. I had thought I would eventually breakdown until Philippians 2:13 became real to me.

That energy is God’s energy, an energy deep within you, God himself willing and working at what will give him the most pleasure (Phil 2:13 MSG).

Knowing that God has deposited within me an energy needed to please Him encourages me every time I seem tired.

What we need is a work ethic which is informed by God’s Word and religiously lived out in the workplace and the church… how we work not only reveals who we are, but determines what we are —KENT HUGHES

Jim George answered some questions on work

Why you work? — to please God

Who you work for? — for God

What you are working for — for God’s glory?

Who you are working with? — potential members of God’s kingdom

Where you are working on?— the center of God’s will

What have your experiences been at work? How are you holding on as a believer? Please share with us, your testimonies might be what someone needs to hear to be encouraged or to answer his or her questions.

Happy birthday to my great editor(Iyanuoluwa Komolafe), thank you for all you do. For putting your midas touch on the posts. Do well to say a word of prayer for her if you have been blessed by the posts thus far.

  1. Thanks for another edifying piece 👌. Pleasing the master must be the priority of every believer. Doing this may result into some challenges springing up, yet the Spirit is always ready to strengthen us.

And to your wonderful editor, I wish her a happy birthday. More Unction to bless lives In Jesus Name.

  2. Very encouraging indeed. I also believe this because in my work place I feel this nudging to do my best even when others feel it’s okay. I’d also confess that sometimes I ignore the nudge. Thanks for sharing, now I know better

  3. Thank you very much for this sir.
With the way the wrong things are becoming normal in this day and age, there’s need for a reminder of Who is actually our standard

    God bless her years!
