Break it

Happy New year friends. This is my first post here this year, there is a short message I will like to pass across here.

Last year, I was able to spend so much time at home like I have never done in a long time. As time passed by, I noticed some behaviours in myself that were obviously inherent in my parents and I was shocked, I didn’t pay so much attention to them until I listened to a minister talk about something related.

Sometimes, we see ourselves do things that our grandparents and parents did or are doing. These are habits they may have shown, lived and maybe introduced to us. Some of these are negative acts like anger, complaining, drinking, worrying and so on. These patterns affect our lives and go on to affect even our society in general. David was involved in adultery, Ammon his son raped Tamar his sister and Absalom also slept with his father’s concubines.

For some of us, these patterns have shaped our lives that we often say words like ” I am who I am because of who my Daddy was”, “I will be better off if not because of my father” and others like, “Don’t blame me, that is who I am, my Dad was also like that

In this new year, we have to change. We need to know that our parents have lived this life but it is our choice to live or not to live the same life. It was Adam’s choice to eat of the forbidden fruit (Genesis 3:6), it was the choice of the two hundred and fifty leaders to join Korah in his rebellion (Number 16:2) and it was also the choice of the sons of Korah not to join in the rebellion (Numbers 26:11, Amplified version). It is a world of cause and effect.

Just the way sin came to this World through Adam (a lot of time we blame him)… Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, so death spread to all people [no one being able to stop it or escape its power], because they all sinned (Romans 5:12, Amplified version)… But we now have a choice, we may decide to live like Adam or embrace Jesus and His works… But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many (Romans 5:15, KJV).

Do we want a change? Because if we don’t, even God cannot help. If you do want a change, then keep following me.

We first need to be conscious of these things and be deliberate about not wanting to walk in that path. Also, we must walk by the Spirit … “This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law”.(Gal 5:16-18). Walking by the Spirit doesn’t mean that we will not be forced to act out the desires of the flesh, it is a conscious effort to place the desires of the flesh second to our response to the desires of the Holy Spirit. A conscious effort to live like a believer when the situation says otherwise). Walking in the Spirit vs walking in the flesh is better illustrated the way an airplane overrides gravity using the aerodynamics principles in order to fly, law of gravity was not thrown away but there is a system that overrides it.

Don’t forget to stop that bad cycle; break that cycle this year. Like a dilapidated structure, pull that bad habits down. Choose to live the way God will have you live.

Selah!

  2. Wawuuuuu! Thanks for this Sir.

It’s important to always remind ourselves that we have died with Christ and experienced a rebirth (a Spiritual one). The rebirth then necessitates that we live every bit of our lives according to the dictates of the Spirit.

    God bless you Sir!
